An extremely rare opportunity to purchase an exquisite and freshly serviced vintage JVC RC-828LB Radio Cassette Recorder with 4 Band Radio in superb original condition. Believed to be the best on the market today, and a true collector's item.
A solid, original and great sounding example of this rare model, which has just been serviced for sale. This one has just had a full service - believed to be a unique for this model on the market today. A genuine unit, with all rear casing screws and internal screws original and tightening properly.
A lovely portable boombox from the 1980's for the office, home, or simply for decoration, with the benefit of being serviced. The tape mechanism plays, rewinds and fast-forwards beautifully, and the radio is clear. The aerials are original and complete with no missing tips, and have been polished as part of the refurbishment.
I have stripped the unit, replaced all cassette belts with precision ground units, cleaned the heads, capstan, pinch roller, mechanism and controls. I have also polished the internals. The battery terminals are clean. The battery cover is present and clips in properly.
There are stereo external mic inputs, and external speaker outputs, headphone socket, plus a DIN connector for integration with other units if required.
The FM stereo works perfectly, with the tell-tale light It also has MW, LW and SW subject to local coverage.
A solid, heavy unit, and plenty loud for it's size!
The handle is strong and intact, with genuine mirror-finish chrome end caps.
It is a vintage item (nearly 45 years old!), so there is of course some wear and tear associated with age - but it is overall in fantastic condition for its vintage to be fair, with original knobs, etc. It even includes the original cassette door overlay - please see the photos for condition, as they were taken on the day of the listing. I cleaned and lubricated the cassette door and slow-release mechanism, which worked perfectly for a while. It disengages and hinges beautifully (see video) - but needs a gentle nudge to get it moving when it's colder (it is generally fine with the weight of a tape in). Not a deal-breaker, but just wanted to mention it. It will likely improve with regular use, as it's only due to the internal plastic slider friction.
