Rare JVC RC-646 Vintage Radio Cassette Recorder. A solid and great sounding example of this rare model, which has just been serviced for sale - believed to be a unique for this model on the market today. A genuine unit, with all rear casing screws and internal screws original and tightening properly.
A lovely portable boombox from the 1970's for the office, home, or simply for decoration, with the benefit of being serviced. The tape mechanism works perfectly on play, fast-forward and rewind (including the counter), and the radio is clear. The aerial extends and holds in place nicely.
I have stripped the unit, replaced the cassette belts with precision ground units, cleaned the heads, capstan, pinch roller, mechanism and controls. I have also cleaned the internals, oiled the motor etc.
The music scan works in both directions. The pause, scan forward and scan reverse electronic switched have been cleaned, and I have renewed the flashing LEDs.
The battery terminals are clean, and the unit is working brilliantly, with a nice wide frequency response and effective tone controls.
The FM stereo works perfectly, with the telltale light. It also has MW, LW and SW, with a fine tuner for the SW radio.
A solid, heavy unit, and plenty loud for it's size!
The handle is strong and intact, with genuine mirror-finish chrome end caps.
It is a vintage item (nearly 50 years old). There is wear and tear associated with age and use - but it is overall in good condition for its vintage to be fair, with original knobs, etc - please see the photos for condition, as they were taken on the day of the listing.
Packaging will be thorough, tracked and insured, although you are very welcome to collect in person, with a demonstration. Please note that the auction is for the stereo only. Cassette and power lead are for demonstration only. The power lead is the readily available 'Figure of 8' cable, so I do not like to risk transit damage by including them with the vintage, heavy boomboxes.
